The season ends with a single final in Madrid at the start of June. You can also check the official calendar on UEFA.com, the official Champions League website.

Two dates deserve special attention. Matchday 8, on 27 January 2027, is unlike any other round: all 18 matches are played on the same day, and the final league table will only be settled when those games finish. That single evening decides who qualifies directly for the Round of 16, who must go through the play-offs and who is eliminated. The other key date is the final itself, on Saturday 5 June 2027 at the Estadio Metropolitano in Madrid. Our guide to the Champions League final 2027 covers that match in more detail.
Kick-off times: CET, UK and US Eastern
Most Champions League matches use two standard kick-off slots. A smaller number of games start in the early slot and the majority start in the late slot, which makes planning much simpler than in domestic leagues where kick-off times vary widely. The table below converts both slots for the three audiences this English section serves most often.
| Slot | Central European Time | United Kingdom | US Eastern Time |
|---|---|---|---|
| Early kick-off | 18:45 | 17:45 | 12:45 PM ET |
| Late kick-off | 21:00 | 20:00 | 3:00 PM ET |
For readers in the United States, that means most Champions League football falls in the early afternoon on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, which is convenient for watching during a lunch break but easy to miss if you rely on evening highlights. For readers in the United Kingdom, the late slot is the familiar 8pm start. Always double-check an individual fixture before matchday, because the listing on our English home page and the daily fixtures page is updated as schedules are confirmed.

How the league-phase table works
There are no groups in the current format. All 36 teams sit in one table, ordered by points and then by the usual tie-breakers, and each team plays eight matches, four at home and four away, against eight different opponents. What matters is where a team finishes when Matchday 8 ends. The top eight teams go straight into the Round of 16. Teams finishing from 9th to 24th enter the two-legged knockout play-offs in February, where they compete for the other eight Round of 16 places. Teams finishing from 25th to 36th are eliminated from the competition.
That structure is why every matchday matters, including the early ones happening this week. A win on Matchday 3 can be the difference between a direct place in the Round of 16 and an extra two play-off matches in February. If you want the full explanation, including how the format compares with the old group stage, read our guide to the Champions League format explained.
